David Junior Popo better known as
Young DP is
19 years
old and lives at Bonneterre, Gros- Islet in St. Lucia. It appears that Young DP’s passion for singing started from his mother’s womb as he started to sing as soon as he was able to speak. He made his first public appearance at the age of 2 years when he performed with his brother Ayinde now known as DJ Madboy, at a married couples’ function on Valentine’s Day in Feb 1990. This talent was continuously nurtured at every family and friends function as he was always called upon to entertain the guests.
At the age of nine he joined his schools
choir the Bonneterre Private School where he enjoyed performing at their yearly outdoor Christmas Carol singing festival. Young DP comes from a strong Catholic family and so at the age of 12 he joined the Gros-Islet Youth Church Choir adding the only male voice to the choir. His love for singing did not hamper him from being the only male in the choir. Young DP is a member of the Church youth group and he has performed on many occasions at youth retreats, weddings and other events. He was often called upon to sing at school assemblies and talent shows in schools he previously attended. He now attends the recently opened Bright Horizon Secondary School. Young DP is also a member of the Digicel Pan TimeSteel orchestra.

In August 2007, Young DP went to Iowa to spend 2 weeks vacation with his brother Ayinde who presently works with the
Iowa State University. This was Young DP’s moment to shine as his brother along with his Grenadian friend Rick Charles own a recording studio. The business is called Heavy Inc International Sounds and comprises six members: Madboy,
Treun, Mega, Cheut Big Reu and Young DP as the newest member. The purpose of this business venture is to promote Caribbean music abroad.
During his vacation in Iowa, young DP’s dream came true as he immediately set out to record two hit songs, “Dem Girls” and “What If”. “Dem Girls” was composed by Young DP, featuring Madboy and Mega. ‘What If’ was composed by Young DP and featured Mega.
His favorite artists are Usher and Boys-to-Men. His style is R& B and Hip-hop.
He is determined to succeed as according to him he feels music in his bones. He is grateful to his parents David & Mary and his brother Ayinde who have always believed in him. Young DP wants to be a positive example to young people.
Finally he is thankful to God for blessing him with such a wonderful gift. He knows that the sky is the limit for him.You
