Hon.
Stephenson King, after holding the post of acting Prime Minister
for the past several months, due to the sudden illness of Sir
John Compton has been sworn in as St. Lucia's new Prime
Minister. This is as a result of Sir John Compton succumbing to
his illness on Friday 07, September 2007.
Hon.
King was sworn in on Sunday 09, September after receiving
support from the majority of the elected members of the United
Workers Party. It is rumored that two members Hon. Marcus
Nicholas and Hon. Rufus Bousquet guaranteed their support for
the new Prime Minister only if certain stipulations were met on
their behalf.
The
new prime minister in an interview said that one of the things
on his agenda is to make sure that his government provides the
necessary Social Services particularly Health Services. Prime
Minister King has indicated that arrangements have been made for
the funeral service for Sir John to be held on September 22,
2007.
He
also went on to say that he will be engaging with his ministers
asking them to disclose and indicated their present situation
and if their is anything which may affect the government
or prevent them form conducting their duties to the country they
will be asked to do the honorable thing.
All
services of the current ministers of the United Workers Party
ceased to exist when Sir John Compton passed away. The New Prime
Minister indicated that he will be making an announcement on the
structure of his new cabinet of ministers in the coming week.
