TENNYSON |
It
was like a dream come true for us at scruffyradio.com when, we
approached the entrance from the Gros-Islet highway (un-usually
late) to see cars parked on both sides of the highway and police
refusing to let any one else come in to the Gaiety Entertainment
Center ( as we refer to it ) because "De place already pack
garcon" as one guy told us.
Why you ask were we pleased? This Groovy Soca Monarch
Competition put on by St. Lucia's Cultural Development
Foundation is the first ever held in St. Lucia and features only
our very talented local artistes. It was a blessing to see our
local patrons on a week day no doubt supporting their own in
such large numbers.
The show started at about 9:00pm and as soon as the first
artiste got on stage it was hit after hit from a total of 20
competitors. Everyone was on par with their performance and
presentations with few making some errors in their delivery
which most thought could have been left for a more one on one
debate.
But the night belonged to Tennyson, who gave a superb
performance and presentation
which
took most by surprise when a rain of balloons and confetti came
down on everyone. At that point Tennyson was the favorite to
win. At the end of it all the 3 places were as Black I with his
song "Doh Play Me" came in as the first runner up with 382
points, Mary Anne was the second runner up with "Cheating" at
390 points and the man of the night and first ever Groovy Soca
Monarch wit 446 points was Tennyson "TJ" John.
Its all left now to the competitors of the Power Soca Monarch to
strut their stuff and see if they can top the raved revues of
the Groovy Soca Monarch Competition 2007. Check out
