THE LINE-UP FOR ST. LUCIA'S JAZZ FESTIVAL IS ANNOUNCED

FEBRUARY 13, 2007 - The St. Lucia Tourist Board in its usual grand affair  announced its line-up of Artistes to perform at this years St. Lucia Jazz Festival 2007.

The evening began with a cocktail with invited guests , sponsors and media either mingling with each other or walking in late.

Then it was time for the speeches by the officials of the tourist board to include the Director Maria Fowel and the Public Relations Manager Mr. Kirby Allain.  They both iterated the new policies set before them with regards to the cutting of their budget and the return to the original format of the St. Lucia Jazz Festival which saw more Jazz Acts performing and less of the R&B Genre. The two also pointed out that the festival would continue to show case local performers in its line-up.

The St. Lucia Tourist board would also for the first time concentrate its efforts on only four events namely the Thursday and Friday night shows and the Saturday and Sunday main stage acts. The other fringe events although endorsed by the board will be run by Private organizations or business interests. These would include the The Opening of Jazz in Castries, Jazz On The Derek Walcott Square in Castries, The Fond Dor Jazz in the village of Dennery, and Jazz in the South in Vieux-Fort.

The Minister of Tourism Hon. Allan Chastanet  used the opportunity to re-assure persons in attendance of his his vision of the new way forward for the St. Lucia Jazz Festival and the fact that although BET would still be playing a major role in the setting up of the Jazz Festival in St. Lucia use of their services would be gradually fazed out over a period of time and St. Lucian's would   gradually take over most of the production of the festival.
